Fortune tellers, Fasnacht and London bridges

I began the year 2024 by getting a tarot card reading. Regardless of any skepticism towards esoteric practices, I personally find them highly interesting and just as credible as other beliefs we adopt to navigate our lives consciously. I was pleased with my reading. According to Aaron, the tarot card reader, I was going to coast through this year relatively unscathed. What more could I ask for?! I was ready to start my year!

This is my third year in retirement and I find myself limiting my travel to only a few places a year. Though travel Instagram'ers make traveling full time look glamorous, it can be exhausting. Maybe that's why most of the social medial travel influencers are 20 to 30 something year olds! My first big trip of the year was going back to visit Switzerland. I was beyond excited! I arrived in February in time for Fasnacht(Swiss carnival) and my birthday. Arriving in Basel, I immediately reverted to the familiar routine that I recalled from my time living there. I enjoyed catching up with colleagues and friends. I wandered around the Novartis Campus and went to my old neighborhood in Frenkendorf enjoying some time with my favorite neighbors Rudi and Maria.

Fasnacht did not disappoint! I love this carnival and will never tire of experiencing it.

Exploring Basel as a tourist, I visited all my favorite spots in the city, eating delicious food and drinking good wines. The month passed quickly, and it was soon time to leave. Despite being extremely content with my time in Switzerland, I surprisingly felt no regret or sadness when leaving.

I decided to spend some days in London before heading back to the States. As many times as I had transitioned through London on my way to and from the States, I had never really spent any time there. I loved wandering around London! I saw some great shows, ate some good ethnic food and marveled at the architecture.

My life in Switzerland was incredibly enriching when I lived there and the friends I made are lifetime friends but I felt like I had moved on. Until this trip, all my travels had been measured against Switzerland but I had a feeling that would not be the case moving forward.

My "aha" moment came as I was leaving Europe. I knew the moment the wheels left the tarmac that Europe was where I wanted to set roots for awhile. On the way back to the States, I started to plan my 3 month exploratory trip to Northern Spain in September. First though, I would setup a base for my RV camper so that I could come back to Texas to visit the family every year and for the rest of the spring I would spend time with my newest grandbaby Pepper and of course my all time fav, Porter.

I headed back to my little pueblito in Mexico for the summer to reflect on whether or not I would keep my little casita after this year. I decided that until I returned from my trip to Spain it wouldn't make sense to try and make a decision. I will return to Mexico after my trip to Spain for a few months before I head back to Texas in the spring. For now I will enjoy my little casita and all the friends I have in Tequis.

This post is about 9 months overdue, and at this point, I am already on my exploratory journey in Spain! The trip has been truly amazing! Stay tuned for more details in the upcoming weeks. I promise...
