The more you practice following your own rhythm, the more rhythmic your life will become.

Next week will mark one month on the road for me. I am still trying to find a rhythm to my travels. How to pack and unpack things so that I am not constantly looking for the next pair of socks! How to find the right accommodation in the right area. How to stay in places that are not too touristy but have a balance of expats to locals.

How to get into a rhythm on what and when to eat. Eating out can be relatively cheap in Mexico if you eat off the street every day but eating tacos, tamales or chilaquiles always is not the healthiest way to eat either. So finding a balance is a work in progress.

It's has been a busy 3 weeks, I've met loads of people, visited some cool places and eaten some great food. All and all its been a great experience. Though I feel like I am still touring instead of immersing. There hasn't been any slow travel per say, I've moved around every week. The longest stint was Oaxaca. I am heading to a city where I hope to settle in for a month or so, let's see.

My estimated monthly budget has totally been derailed for the month of January and probably February. I think I under estimated my expenses and expectations. I have romanticized the idea of me vagabonding my way through the Americas. But the reality of it is, there is a certain lifestyle that I have become accustom to and it is difficult not to want to fall back on that. I need to remember that I am not in Switzerland anymore earning a very nice salary.

When I set my lodging budget, I didn't take into account the added taxes or service fees that are included in the price of a stay, so in order to stick to my monthly lodging budget I am having to find places which are much lower in price then what I expected and also lower in quality. I don't need to live extravagantly in the most exclusive lodging but I do want things like consistent hot water, clean environment and a decent outdoor space if I am staying longer then a few days. I will be adjusting my budget to a more realistic one in the next few days. I am just grateful that I have some leeway to do that!

What I've learned in the last few weeks is finding places or things to do that has value for money. Sometimes this can be difficult and I am still trying to work out how to do this consistently.

I am a bohemian at heart always but I just don't know if I am one in reality. Sometimes reality bites!
